Welcome to Fiona Spencer’s Counselling Psychology Practice
Welcome to my website, which seeks to explain the service I provide in my therapeutic practice as a Counselling Psychologist, and how it may be of help to you. I offer individual psychological therapy tailored to your needs, either in-person or remotely, from my practice in Dorking, Surrey.
You are welcome to contact me either by phone or e-mail if you have any questions or wish to discuss whether I might be able to help. There is no charge for any such initial enquiry.
Psychological therapy is of proven benefit in a wide range of mental and physical health problems, and you may be able to access such help through the NHS. But if you are looking to see an experienced therapist, with qualifications in psychology, counselling and psychotherapy, who can offer therapy from her practice in Dorking, Surrey, at times to fit in with your life, do read on.
In my Counselling Psychology Practice I provide counselling and psychotherapy to adults of any age with emotional, psychological or relationship issues that are causing distress, or to those who are seeking more in-depth understanding of personality issues that may be holding them back.
The starting point is establishing a relationship of trust in which together we make a careful assessment of your difficulties and their context, and apply psychological knowledge so as to establish a shared understanding and plan for therapy.
For the most frequently occurring mental health problems – depression and anxiety – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) may be helpful.
Work-related stress, relationship breakdown, trauma, loss, identity issues and low self-esteem may also be contributors for which you may be seeking counselling; or a more general sense that all is not well, that you wish to explore means of creating greater fulfilment or purpose to your life. I have particular interests in life transitions, adaptation to physical health problems, infertility and end-of-life care.
One approach that can be usefully applied in many situations, and which I can offer, is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This model of therapy teaches us how reduce the impact of painful thoughts and feelings, while simultaneously taking actions to build a more fulfilling life, in accordance with a person’s individual values.
The length and approach to therapy is tailored to your individual needs, and my training as a Counselling Psychologist, together with over 15 years of experience in the NHS (in a Psychology Service and a local GP Surgery), the voluntary sector and private practice, enables me to provide this.
I also offer and receive supervision with other practitioners. Supervision is a life long process for Counselling Psychologists, through which therapists can safely reflect on their clinical practice in a confidential setting.
My Counselling Psychology Practice in Dorking is within easy reach by road or rail of Leatherhead, Ashtead, Epsom, Cobham, Esher, Guildford, Reigate, Redhill, Sutton, Horsham and Crawley.
Appointments are available weekdays and evenings, and every effort will be made to respond promptly and flexibly to your needs.
